| | Went here for a late breakfast, and found a much tonier setting than the funkier Julia's in Wallingford; they're kind of going for a Victorian look, with white painted, dark wood-trimmed walls in a renovated, very large old house, and lots of little antique bits of prints and so forth in ornate frames on the walls. It's sort of interesting, but also colorless and cold; and we were seated by the large front windows overlooking Queen Anne Ave, where it was literally quite cold. The bare, hard tables are packed pretty close together, and on the whole it wasn't very comfortable. Service was a little too forcibly formal and polite. It was also quite slow. One tidbit we learned from the server was that the upstairs can fit at least 40 people for dining, which seemed impressive for an old house to pull off. To get up there, you have to go up a very narrow and steep flight of stairs branching off the old picture-frame-packed front entry. Servings were small in comparison with what you'll usually get at warmer, more relaxed breakfast joints. On the plus side, they were very well prepared, and quite tasty. Still, considering the cold atmosphere and slow service, I don't think I'd want to go back. |
