A retro compilation of two challenging late NES (or Famicom, if you prefer) games, "Battle Formula" and "Gimmick!."

Battle Formula, sequel to the game known as Spy Hunter in the States, provides some superb racing and shooting action with many enhancements over the original including no time limit, roads that actually turn, protracted battles against massive Psikyo-like boss vehicles that change form as you damage them (and illustrate that these games are actually vshmups in disguise), and auto-tracking roof turrets.

Gimmick! provides bold, colorful platform action with a twist, as your little blob character has to use different potions that he finds to get by a variety of deadly obstacles.

Both games seem quite faithful to the old console hardware, going so far as to include the heavy slowdown that NES fans will remember so well. I'm not all that nostalgic about the slowdown that I wouldn't be much happier without it, but don't let it ruin your enjoyment this otherwise impressive and inexpensive game pack.
