The best part about this first-person shooter is that you can play split-screen co-op with a buddy through the full story mode, which seems to be pretty darn extensive.

Like the original PC Sam games, this one banks on huge, almost barren environments with tons and tons of respawning monster waves. Unfortunately the creators, Croteam, didn't do this game themselves, and while the farm team did a workmanlike job, it just doesn't have the insane inspiration of Croteam's efforts. The new monsters pale in comparison to the old werebulls and headless exploding guys, for instance, and the waves of respawning enemies somehow don't feel as epic as they used too. And the level design doesn't have the jaw-dropping sense of size that Croteam's stages had.

So, waa. Co-op was still okay fun for the most part, at least until we got to the first outright jumping puzzle that throws you in a a nasty pool of lava if you slip off the rotating rollers. Boo-hiss! I'd have much preferred that they'd simply ported Croteam's originals over but I suppose for fans who've played those to death already, a half-baked new one is better than one they already have. Or something. But it sure isn't the same.
