The high-speed, spectacular car-wrecking racing game lands on PSP with most of the high-speed and wrecking part intact, at least as far as I can see from having spent very little time with either handheld or console ones. Wooh!

The Burnout gimmick is a flaming meter in the lower right corner that builds up as you "drive dangerously," or so I hear. Anyway, it builds up. You spend it by pressing down the right shoulder button for a power boost. As long as you keep driving fast and dangerously, you can in theory keep boosting, and tool the competition.

In theory; I'm not much good at it so far. It handles like a pretty decent arcade-style racer, though, and the faster cars do indeed go pretty fast. Legends has some kind of world tour thing going where you go through tons and tons of different races with different goals, which can include things like wrecking a competing car.

What it didn't really do is grab me and say "play me!" The typical EA licensed music blaring over the system's tiny speaker didn't help much, I suppose, but also, the tracks seem uninspired and the handling a little unresponsive; and the slow-mo crashes don't really get me all excited--they just interrupt the racing action. But the handheld version seems like a good port of the console ones, for whatever that's worth.

It has game sharing, where one person with the game can serve out a demo thingy that others nearby can try via WiFi. Takes a really long time to download the demo, though, and the second, longer part doesn't even show a download meter, so you just watch a little spinning hubcap go around and around forever.
