I never played the Contra games much in the arcade; although they debuted at the time when I tended to visit arcades somewhat regularly, it seemed to me that making light of the Contra/Sandinista conflict in Nicaragua was socially irresponsible. Ah, kids! So anyway, I can't judge this one much by comparing it with the older Contra games; it will have to be on its own terms.

And I kind of liked it, but kind of didn't. It has co-op, which is neat, and a variety of characters to choose from, and of course lots of really violent shooting. On the other hand, it likes to throw really hard-to-see bullets at you, or massive attacks that cannot really be anticipated, so it becomes an exercise in memorization. That's all fine and good, I suppose, but it isn't my preferred style of shooting game.

Still, it seems solidly produced, and probably the most interesting looking of all the console 2D Contra games I've seen (not many).
