| | | Lounge singer string quartet "greatest hits" album--not that Hooverphonic has that large a library from which to draw. Singer Arnaert gets inventive with each line, perhaps not to the greatest sonic effect, but at least they sound a little different from when you last heard them. Still, it's all a little too percussive and sharp for my tastes; and did we really need tracks like the fairly moronic "Frosted Flake Wood" on here? Where's "Battersea"? You get the feeling that they're kind of slumming in their own swill here, which is sort of cute, but not all that impressive. |
