| | | Zombies attack a town for whatever reason (do zombies need a reason), and your intrepid stud news photographer has himself dropped off at the mall right in the middle of the zombie infestation. From there he has to loot a bunch of stores, smash zombies with the contents, take some pictures, and I'm not sure what else.
There is some kind of story mode here, and some kind of quasi-real-time story-telling device (where you may have to wait around for the next story-pushing event to happen, or may miss it) as far as I've heard, but all my friend really did when she showed this off was have us run around the mall, smashing zombies with whatever was close at hand, sort of like a "Grand Theft Auto" game only with zombies and no cars.
Smashing zombies with random mall store inventory sounds pretty cool, but for some reason it isn't all that. The normal mall-wandering zombies are slow and not very interesting. Throwing stuff you find as projectile weapons is an important technique, but an annoying one, since you have to press and hold a button or two, or something like that, to get ready to throw, and then the camera shifts, and you kind of have to eyeball things... Anyway, it was too complicated for me, or at least more complicated than it should have been.
There are cut-scenes here and there, and they look pretty good, but most of the voice acting and writing is horrible, and they plod along really slowly--the early ones I saw did, anyway.
There are lots of in-jokey juvenile humor type of things, like an old lady who dotes over her dog, and the dog gets stuck out with the zombies. And the lady is dumb and runs out to the dog who is SURROUNDED BY ZOMBIES. And then they rip her to pieces or something, I can't quite remember. Anyway, the point is, this ain't no Shakespeare.
So, that was about all I saw, which I'll admit wasn't much, but it did seem on the dull side for a zombie smashing game. |
