Playing Dig Dug in MAME (see entry 1541), using the arcade ROM extracted from the Steam version of Arcade Game Series: Dig Dug (see entry 1495).

I followed the extraction directions here: https://github.com/farmerbb/RED-Project/wiki/Arcade-Game-Series

and am running Dig Dug using these command-line parameters in a Windows shortcut to mame.exe (version 0.119, from 2007, the last pre-64-bit version; couldn't get it to run in more recent MAMEs):

digdug -video gdi -joystick -volume -22

Looks like my highest recorded Dig Dug score is 119580 --that was with the Namco Museum Vol. 3 (see entry 179) version on PS1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1a7LYPB4lA ; close second is 115370 pts with the Arcade Archives version on PS4 (see entry 1477), which at the time was 16th on the leaderboard, the highest non-Japanese score : P https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9qM_mXnl9U . So I've got a good ways to go in this arcade version to catch up to those!

Checking the DIP Switch settings from MAME's in-game TAB menu, it defaulted to Easy; various high score lists say to use Medium, so I guess I'll switch to that for next time. ^ _^

C:\downloaded\mame0119\mame.exe digdug -video gdi -waitvsync -joystick -volume -10

Like the Pac games, runs at ~60.6 fps, so can get kinda jerky--hopefully waitvsync will make that better.

Does save high scores on its own though, unlike the Pac-mans.

Taking vsync out of the command line. ^ _^ I'd thought I'd needed it for recording games well but doesn't seem to be the case, at least for the ones I've checked now; and they're mostly noticeably more responsive with it off, whee! : )

Monster movement in Dig Dug is NOT random; if you move the same way every time, they will too!
