Aka "暴れん坊天狗 & ZOMBIE NATION." Compilation by City Connection of both the NES and Famicom versions of Zombie Nation / Abarenbou Tengu, a weird horizontal shooter by Live Planning, published by Meldac.

Like City Connection's HEBEREKE Enjoy Edition (see entry 1805), the games are in a kinda clunky UI. On the plus side, has some nice scans of box and poster art--but not great controller support, probably some input lag, flashing intro, menu-based quicksave/quickload (although the single-button Rewind function, though annoying with its graphical FX, would probably suffice), and can't show the games full screen without blurring.

Script here https://github.com/Infinest/Gimmick-ROM-extractor can extract the original ROMs.

https://tcrf.net/Zombie_Nation says difference between Famicom and NES version is title screen art, main character art--Famicom tengu mask vs NES severed samurai head and in-game Famicom Statue of Liberty vs NES Medusa.

"Abarenbou" means "violent" says Google Translate.

Waitasec, Wikipedia says Live Planning was a publisher, not a developer--says the developer was KAZe, in fact their first game!

Wikipedia also says in the Famicom version "the player must obtain the rapid fire ability" vs starting with it in the NES version. This just seems to be autofire, actually, ie the ability to fire continually by holding the button down; but the rate of fire is the same: max one bullet on-screen.

About what the gallery calls a "poster", loki pointed out https://selectbutton.net/t/illustration-of-game/13003/101 that the "IN" label with arrow at one corner suggests it's actually a phone card--and that would explain the rounded corners, too!

There's a bad red sky flash / strobe effect if you run into the columns of electricity cycling into the sky in stage 1. : P

Anyway for now I think I'm going to try going with the Japanese version (tengu mask and Statue of Liberty).
