| | Decent no-frills 2D version of the classic puzzler. But why is it that, although they could license the gameplay, they couldn't get the good old Russian music of the NES/GB versions? It just ain't Tetris without that, man, and the music they replaced it with here rather sucks. The backgrounds don't seem to fit any particular theme either but at least they're colorful without creating too much distraction. What may be distracting is the slow pulsing glow around the edges of blocks--look at that too closely and it seems like they're blurring in and out of your vision. Trippy. I like the sound made when blocks click onto something, that actually helps I think. It might be the best classic Tetris on PS1 for all I know but--bah, get yourself a GB and a GB Player and the old GB Tetris, that's the way to do it (I got this before the Player was announced :p). |

| | Only just realized that the appearance of the blocks in this year 2000 game is styled after the look of the blocks in Arika's 1998 arcade game Tetris The Grand Master. |
