Gorgeously done platformer in which you play a guy reduced to childhood by a demon, determined to rescue some chick using your sword, your Jordanesque leaping ability, and little fuzzy firey ball spitting guys you pick up along the way. Enjoys a subtle color palette, minute animation and delicate transparency effects rarely seen in platformers on any system, much less all at once. Not to mention great music, excellent pacing, brilliant bosses and a game design that challenges you without ever screwing you over or making things needlessly difficult. And let's not forget the storybook stages and parallaxing backgrounds, and the instantaneous autosave and zero load times once you're in-game.

It's not often that I get excited about platformers but this game simply excels in every respect.

Not sure about the platforming but I hadn't realized at least some of the boss fights take place in non-SD-Ralph, fighting game format:

Wikipedia says it's all the boss fights, and also "Beating the game unlocks a two-player versus mode, where players can play as Ralph or any of the game's bosses."
