paleface [sys=PCE; cat=Shooter_Horiz; reg=JPN] |
| | Very bare-bones WWII-era horizontal shooter of the old two-button shoot/drop-bomb combination ala Gradius or something. Bomb powerups spice things up a bit, turning your prop-plane's normal bombs in to larger bombs, volleys of missles, funky cluster-bomb type things, and so forth. All well and good, and the waves of air and ground opponents during the levels aren't bad, even if they and the levels don't look like much. Sound is mediocre at best. The bosses downright suck though, seeming to take an unlimited amount of damage while releasing their tracking bullet pattern over and over (maybe I'm just shooting wrong) and then flying back off the screen. Cue next level. Woot! Is it just me, or does it strike anyone else as odd that a Japanese company made a game called "The Freedom Fighter" about an aircraft whose main role in history was that of enemy to their own country's military? Interesting. |
