| | Can you really go wrong with a game in which you run from left to right knocking monsters' heads off with not one but two lithe young warrior women? And let's give you decent graphics and sound, good music, and some anime cinematics to go with 'em. Good? Well, I guess. I suck at platformers and this one starts off kind of hard, and you have to be swapping back and forth between the two characters--the you get to a boss and you can't swap anymore, how swell is that? Monsters attack quickly and your abrupt jump attack doesn't lend itself to dodging very well. You've got a magic gauge and magic projectile attack with which to help fend the baddies off, though, and said attack can get powered up, along with the magic gauge and your health, by collecting dropped items from monstars. So I dunno, it seems okay for the genre, if a little tough at the beginning for the Valis newb. I wish the control had a bit more Super Mario style soft touch to it, but then again I say that about pretty much every non-SMB platformer. |
