Nifty co-op top-down Gauntlet-style (can I get some more dashes in here?) action RPG thing with some nice anime-style production. The problem I have with it so far is difficulty: your character dies in a single hit (unless they find a suit of power armor, which doesn't last very long) from anything, even a little bitty bat. In fact taking out the first mid-boss with his telegraphed moves is way easier than getting through the swarms of bats without dying. Gahh! And if you lose your three lives you can only continue back at the beginning (of the level, at least).
So I have got just about nowhere in this game. I'd like to try it with two players together, that might help.

Once you get used to dealing with the bats or, on later levels, bat-like creatures, the game isn't too tough. Or very long. I got all the way through it co-op, though we did burn a number of credits on continues. There is some slowdown throughout, and minor graphical glitches here and there. On the plus side, the enemy and level designs are nice to look at. The controls have you shoot with one button (make it a charge attack if you haven't shot for a few seconds), lock your facing with the other, so you can move one way and shoot another, and the Run is the magic bomb button.
Definitely a mediocre game, and won't keep you occupied very long co-op. But at least you can get a kick out of how they called it "Mystic Formura" on the CD label.
