| Square was trying to branch out into a variety of action genres at one time, I guess, and published this isometric space shooter/brawler made by a third (second?) party. Very high quality presentation with lengthy all-English voiceover and extensive intro sequences set the stage for some excuse for blowing up a lot of alien scum to the tune of wailing guitar riffs (wailing guitars seem to have stayed in fashion in Japan far later than they did in the States). The controls for missle or melee combat with one of three hero characters are somewhat clunky, fortunately when it comes right down to it you can just hold the Lock-On button while pounding Fire or Punch. Is this good? I don't really know yet. It seems to keep you busy exploring and replenishing health and ammo with lots of pickup items (involving fumbling around in the inventory menus, bleh) so maybe once you get used to the controls there's some fun to be had. |
