| | Port of a Toaplan arcade run-n-gun, published in American arcades by Taito as "Demon's World." It seems like a pretty good port, with surprisingly rich color tones, but the game itself has a few annoying tendencies, so let's get those out of the way. As usual, I haven't got very far in this platform game. But I swear it is cheap in a number of ways. First, it doesn't hesitate to spawn in certain enemy types right on top of you. Second, it often divides the screen up in to two sections, one turns out to have a death pit, and if you don't jump on the moving platform the first time, the automatically-scrolling screen shoves you to your death. Waah. And the double-jump is such that if you've passed the apex of your first jump by so much as a pixel, you can no longer activate the second jump. Ouch. So anyway I haven't even seen the second level yet. On the plus side, the game moves fast, gives you a variety of effective weapons, and supports two-player co-op play. Actually, I kind of like the game, but it is hard to say that and sound serious when you've yet to clear a single level. Still, that's my story. |
