| | | Gorgeous 2D vertical shooter from Psikyo. Their last one before the crash and later X-Nauts stuff?
Anyway, it's luverly. I don't know how the hardware stacks up exactly, but I can't think of another 2D vert shooter I've seen with this much color depth/parallaxing to the backgrounds. The color is simply lush, and really brings forth the vibrant organic quality of the settings and enemies.
The gameplay is very Psikyo-style, think Strikers (see 267) or Gunbird (see entry 428) for instance, with multiple playable characters (four here), charge attacks, shot and bomb, generic weapon power-ups, bomb pickups, bosses with multiple sorta evolving forms, and so on. Pretty darn thick and complex bullet patterns relative to other Psikyo shooters.
You can jump off you dragon and leave it flying there taking shots while you dodge around behind it, if you want. I didn't try that; I was too busy having fun shooting things with the dragon. The bomb effects are pretty as well, Gunbird 2-style. I saw one that basically summoned Neptune to come smite your enemies. Neat! |
