You run around with your young buck, either slicing or fricasseeing a large variety of monsters with a large variety of swords or spells. While slightly blocky and cartoonish, the graphics have lush colors and very speedy framerates. The game, at least at the beginning, feels rather light both for this reason, and for the cheesy dialogue and rather bad voice acting, but gameplay, once you get used to not being able to jump, and really to just mashing either the Attack or Spell button, is very smooth, with only very quick slideshow conversations interrupting the running and smashing. Oh, well, there are also some cutscenes, with very nice anime bits and rather less nice CG bits.

So, is this game just a lightweight? I'd be inclined to think so, but I read that it is, in fact, a very long road to the end. Maybe it gets serious later on, then. Hm, come to that, there is some straight-faced stuff with the brash heroes father, and his long-lost brother, so I suppose that will come out sooner or later. It may just turn out to be a rather impressive action RPG after all. Pity they didn't leave an option in for Japanese voices (not that I could understand them, but the English voices really are bad).
