I’ve been listening to CD singles a lot lately, pulling out a few hundred over the last two months. I’ve just today finally found a rotter! It’s Ruined in a Day by New Order, I have both discs and they are both developing pinholes. Looking at the inner circle...yep, PDO Blackburn. That fucking factory!!! This disc was already bronzing when I got in 27 years ago and its PDO so...this is about as fucked as CDs get from my experience...especially a CD single that probably cost, to get both discs, $24 and is really weird single anyway (Sly and Robbie!?)

UPDATE: Both discs still play perfectly, for now.

dang, cd singles!! I avoided those for space reasons even back in the day. you must live in a giant warehouse or your home is made of CDs

I enjoy the unique contents of CD singles and the often clever packaging. They are the same size as any other CD. I do have a lot of space though which is why I have multiple spare CRTs and Laserdisc players. While going through all these singles I found a number of tracks that aren’t on any streaming services without even making a point of it.

yeah, that's cool stuff! Any time I get a new cd I basically have to get rid of another, so this is a far-off dream for me. if you're ever in los angeles there's a store that has a bunch of 80s-90s japanese cd singles on the cheap - still reducing their stock from the actual era.

Are they still selling off the soap operas on VHS? I ask because while I’ve never been there...I sort of have, in Chicago, SF, and even Novi, where it seems %99 of Japanese Michiganders live. Stock is dwindling! The used manga dried up some time ago but it used to be a place you could buy an entire Jump series shrink wrapped into a brick for $15 and then a brand new car magazine to go with it for another $15 because import magazines just never stop going up in price. The last time I was there I bought one of those solar powered lucky cats from the 90, not exactly because I wanted it but because I wanted a memento from one of my favorite stores on what was probably my final trip. It’s now on a high shelf in the kitchen now so it waves at the sun all through breakfast just like it waved at customers every day for probably 20 years or more.
