I don't think the 3DS game is based on the DS/N64 games. I just played it a bit to compare and there doesn't seem to be much similarity beyond the common tracks and elements in all Ridge Racer games. If it's based on any of the games I've played, it might be Type 4, but I'd have to play that one again to see. It's pretty heavy on nitrous and slipstreaming, which are from Ridge Racer 6, right? It might even be an original game and not a remake, which would be quite a surprise since at least half of 3DS games seem to be remakes or something.
I gotta say I had a pretty good time playing it just now, too. Maybe after all I'm the one with no soul...sometimes.
I wish there was an option to make that chick talk less during the race, though. Shit.
