| | Gaming headset, older model but has 3.5mm jack w/ dual 3.5mm splitter extension, so I can plug the mic into the mic port on my laptop and the headphone in into a feedback damper, then a 3.5mm to 1.5cm or whatever those are cable into my headphone amp that feeds from the audio out on my monitor--this way I can get audio from old consoles that come in through the OSSCs. Doesn't need any special software. Using a 3-band equalizer filter in OBS (High -5 dB, Mid -2 dB, Low 5 dB) to approximate the proximity effect I was getting from my Sennheiser E945 stage mic--came surprisingly close. Keeps my ears warm. This was alarming at first, but a four-hour session didn't end up making them sweaty or too hot or anything. Thought this was interesting for comparing microphone quality: https://www.rtings.com/headphones/tools/compare/hyperx-cloud-iii-vs-hyperx-cloud-stinger/40554/509?usage=19&threshold=0.10 From those recordings, Cloud III's mic is slightly clearer, but much worse at noise cancelling, which wouldn't be good in my sound-reflective small student apartment. |

| | These were making a strange, maybe bass-y, loud bobbling sound in the recording sometimes when I moved my head--it would happen even if I held the cable free from bumping into anything, so I don't think it was cable-related. And it isn't audible in playback on my laptop speakers or phone speaker--just when listening on headphones (these same headphones : P--haven't tried on others). The 6ft splitter extension cable they come seems to be rather unique; most headset splitter cables are quite short. I think I'll have a use for it with the next headset I've ordered, since the splitter that one comes with is a short one. Got these pretty cheap on Amazon though so if the long splitter cable works on the next headset--which has a higher quality mic according to rtings.com, although slightly less noise cancelling--they may almost have been worth it just for that 'p' (of course you can get a headset extension cable for a shorter splitter, but then you've got the extra cable junction in there, maybe slightly degrading audio). |
