Playing through Caveman Ninja, aka Joe & Mac, "cninja.zip" ROM placed in an install directory of the Steam game "Retro Classix: Joe & Mac - Caveman Ninja," running in MAME 0.119 (2007--the last 32-bit MAME, accepts just about any ROM) from the Windows 11 command line.

It's a run-and-bonk Bonk's Adventure rip-off kinda thing, but your caveman is slow and floaty, and the enemies are big and fast, and I just got hit a lot, which wasn't very fun.

You can pick an A or B route at certain points; I picked A once and it was an absolutely nightmarish vertical tree-ascending level packed so tightly with antagonistic bees and other highly mobile fast things that I couldn't seem to budge without getting hit and couldn't NOT budge without getting hit or scrolled off the screen. So I went B route each time after that and at least got through; you're back to a checkpoint each time you die but they usually aren't TOO bad.

Managed to blunder my way past bosses eventually; they eventually start with lower HP as some kind of pity mechanism or something once the game realizes it has once again taken all your lunch money and wants to coax you into advancing a bit more and getting hooked into spending someone ELSE's lunch money for the next stage.

I was just really bad at this game and it felt bad.
