Well, aside from having seen and read Black Beauty or something when I was a kid, I know pretty much nothing about horse racing. But this game has super-cute little Namcot sprites and supports up to four players at once, so it has to be worth a few bucks, right?

Haven't got to play it multiplayer yet. There are two modes, "Horse" and "Jockey," and I'm not quite sure of the different between them--maybe something to do with whose career stats get tracked as time goes on. Anyway, you get a jockey and a horse, place your bets (this part I really don't understand, but it is at least half the game--I mean, you can win the race but lose your bets, and then you're skunked), then go race!

The racing is actually pretty fun, you have two buttons: jump and, well, whip, I guess--it makes a slapping sound and the horse goes faster, anyway. But of course you have to manage your steed's stamina, and try to get the helpful powerups laying on the track. Jump is used when a course has hedges or gates to vault--mess up and you'll take a costly spill!

I don't really understand it, but it's still kinda fun.
