| I liked the fluid 2D animation style and swordplay of the original Prince of Persia, and exotic setting was a plus. Now we've got the game remade in high definition 3D graphics, and...I'm not so charmed. The unique sprite design and pixel-precise control of the original is gone, replaced with actually rather low-poly 3D models that have no particular flair or charm. Way to drag a classic game down into mediocrity. I suppose it still plays mostly the same, but then again the slow exploring, back-tracking, and falling on spikes only to have to start over from the beginning haven't really aged that well. Levels now have a checkpoint or two, so you don't have to redo the whole level if you bite it later on, and I guess there are a few other tweaks like to time limits that make the game a lot easier than it was originally. Maybe I'm just fixated on the original's lovely sprites, but man, they could have at least included the original version in this one. |
