| | The name seems to translate as something like "Great Chinese Wizard Paradise" or er something along those lines, it was known as just "Chuka Taisen" or "Cloud Master" when Taito released it in arcades. You control a cute little super-deformed Chinese monk flying his cloud past scenic Chinese background while shooting various cutesy beasts, devils, and flying dishes of food. That's right, I mean that soup and potstickers are coming at you, and they aren't happy. Fortunately you've got a few tricks up your monkish sleeve. You can turn around and fire backwards, for starters, which comes in particularly handy in boss fights. You can, of course, pick up standard powerups (if you take down a whole row of flying potstickers), and shooting down certain midboss-type enemies opens a door in the clouds through which you can access a friendly shop that gives you your pick of secondary weapons--so far my favorite is the dragon sidekick who goes after those stray bowls of soup for you. Cute, hard and tight as nails in the old Taito arcade tradition, yet with unusual characters and gameplay. I like it and so should you. |
