Yeah I was thinking maybe it was something funky with that repaired controller port but I couldn't work out how that would even work but you make it sound so plausible. ^ )^ Just noticed Mesen has PC Engine support so I'll give that emulator a shot at it too.

And then if it still doesn't work there I suppose what I should really do is try it with another game, only I didn't know off the top of my head another game that would have join-in multiplayer like that.

Failed to get any flavor of the game to load in Mesen or Ares, goldang. Possibly one or both of those require setting up separate Windows emulation of the disc drive?--I saw some note maybe about some other emulator that said something like that.
