Posted by exodus on December 31, 2024 at 00:44:05 EST in reply to Oh, wow! I loved that place, the owners were so nice. It seemed like they were always getting new stuff, or had something on the way. Or it was a scheme to trick kids into coming back every week. I'd always leave with a new Dragon Ball figure and instructions on when to come back for the next one. I totally forgot they had a website, that's nuts. I can vividly remember browsing it and calling them. Another 90's Japanimation flashback: I noticed Kimono My House is on instagram and seems to exist in basically the same capacity as ever. Apparently it's a woman? I'm surprised/not surprised. I'd be even less surprised if she did voice work in the 80's. (n/t) from substance J.

I'm not sure how I missed this reply, but it's cool to know you also went to beaman co! they really seemed "cool" to me - all the kids were slightly older than me, they did free movie nights where everyone watched an anime in japanese with no subs (lol) and it's also the first place I saw a neo geo home console in person (two guys were playing Samurai Shodown and I was too intimidated to try).

And yeah, the kimono my house lady is a lady! she has all these ancient shirt licenses and weird stuff. She doesn't get much new stock, but just keeps pulling new old things out of storage. It's pretty wild. I go every few months and pick up some vhs tapes or something ridiculous. She's written in her notes that I get her T-shirt templates when she dies lol.
