It only took 15 years for someone to make an offbrand NGPC fighter. Looking at some videos it seems more than a few attacks are traced NGPC sprites. Might as well start from there if you want to stay faithful, I guess. The fighting system sounds too simplistic for my liking, but having every attack deal the same amount of damage could be interesting. Displaying the length of an attack with a bar onscreen is a neat touch. So it doesn't appear to be all bad, just not my cup of tea.
