I'm not a huge 3DS fan but it does signify the end of a lot of things, mostl surprisingly 3D which is now once again headed for obscurity now that no major TV makers are supporting it. I'm really into the Japanese rail games on 3DS right now and the 3D combined with good headphones really gets me into it. In general I was much more disappointed with the end of the Gameboy era. Btw, it's interesting you said "in the US". I just bought a brand new $100+ Vita game, and it's Super Robot Wars of course. I'm %100 sure there will be a part two of this game released almost exactly a year later which means...that's a pretty late Vita game. It also means that it would behoove someone to release a Vita game in that year since there will be one high profile AAA game (OK, by Japan standards anyway) on the schedule and not much else in between.
