oh, this is SNK-related! I'm gonna be writing all the text in the museum section of the SNK 40th Anniversary collection, and it'll be fun and neat. The end!!

it's a collection of a bunch of pre-neo geo SNK games. so basically all their weirder and less playable stuff! ha ha. but interesting historically, and that's what I'll be looking at.

I was a big SNK fan before the Neo existed, mainly a love affair that began with Ikari, grew massively with Victory Road (where Rambo meets Kinnikuman, two things I was huge into at the time), took a break with P.O.W. (a very very greedy game, quarter-wise) and then there is of course Street Smart. I don’t remember much else from before the emulator era when I found Psycho Solider. I don’t really know what other games there are. I hope you reveal new something to me about Victory Road I never knew.

I can’t help wonder if Victory Road wasn’t at least partially inspired by Zardoz. It has lots of free firearms and some stone heads that look like they may barf guns. Also, Sentai I think, pretty obviously. The “putties” are similar and then they...get swords and henshin for some reason. This game is capital weird. I love it. The first and third ones are almost totally normal. No aliens or supernatural shit at all that I can remember.

What with deciding I want to avoid games with lots of really bright flashing stuff, I'm becoming more interested in this collection, since a lot of the games pre-date the super-flashy arcade era. Ikari Warriors is looking good, for instance. (I played that one a lot back in the day, even!)
