I tried a CR2025 battery in a NGPC. It worked--with a little finagling.
The CR2025 (the one that came in the remote of an HDMI switch I got was a lithium one) is slightly thinner than the CR2032, so when I tried it by itself in the NGPC, the sub-battery-out blinking light alert started up almost immediately, since the battery can shift around inside the battery compartment and lose contact.
So, I stuck a little piece of folded-up paper in on top of the battery, and that kept it in place and working at least long enough to complete the first stage of NGPC Pac-Man.
I suppose that might be a tiny fire hazard : P but I don't generally keep my batteries in my NGPs between plays anyway really, since I don't use them that often.
Bonus of the CR2025: it's exactly the right size to fit in the turning slot on the outside of the sub-battery case!
Drawback of the CR2025, besides not fitting securely on its own: according to the link below, while electrically it should be compatible, since the CR2025 is thinner and thus can't hold as much magical battery substance inside as a CR2032, it won't last as long.
(All my CR2032s are old non-lithium ones, though, so maybe this lithium CR2025 would beat those?)
So I don't think I'd *buy* a CR2025 in lieu of a 2032, but since I got a free one, I guess I might as well put it to work. : P
