I think Demolish Fist and Dolphin Blue wound be the big ones, right? What is Atomiswave exclusive?

not a lot of it is exclusive but these ports are basically flawless on ODEs, they just feel like Dreamcast games. Some games I'm looking forward to are Rumble Fish 2 (never ported) Sushi Bar (unreleased but dumped, and I previewed it on insert credit), knights of valour, dolphin blue, faster than speed(lol), all the SNK games, hokuto no ken, and maybe we'll get hold of some more unreleased games like Kenju or force 5.

What is an ODE?

it's an "optical drive emulator" - basically it replaces your disc drive with a solid state thing that you can run roms on (but not discs). It reduces or removes most load time which is why it was relevant here. The big difference between the Atomiswave and the Dreamcast was apparently just the way it read data, and once the hombrew folks figured that out, they found it was incredibly easy to port Atomiswave games flawlessly to Dreamcast as long as it had an ODE (which replicates the data loading environment of the Atomiswave cartridge). But once they had THAT figured out they were able to retroactively make disc images too, albeit images that have black loading screens here and there, and some odd incremental load-ins of data. But otherwise it works great even on disc now, when you consider how long it's been since this all came to light (maybe two weeks).

...this sure makes all those PS2 ports look even more offensive.

it's pretty cool. 24+ "new" dreamcast games coming in 2020/2021.

there's a bug that doesn't let you get past level 3, but yeah, it's getting there!

Weak AI difficulty in that one, at least in the PS2 version.

That's what's keeping me from going back to it.

To me NeoWave looked and felt exactly like what it was: a summer spent making an Atomiswave demo based on Geo assets so that SNK could get to work with a real game after that. I can’t even remember what was new for that game other than BGs.

They altered the roster a little, put in not-so-great music, sped up meter charging, and added some highly technical "modes" and a 5th button whose toggle increases damage but drains life, according to my notes.

That’s worse than I remember. Was there at least a new boss? There must be new moves.

Not sure about new moves but I think there was a new boss or two...aaaand no, I was completely wrong. The internet says the boss is young (AoF2) Geese Howard.

His sprite is from AoF2? That can’t look good. Or did they at least redraw one guy?

I assumed it just meant he's styled like the Geese from that era, not actually the same old sprite. I haven't taken a look to check.

(it's a new sprite)

Happened to be poking at this for a minute the other day and yeah, it's a weird-looking Geese. Thought at first from his (hidden) portrait on the character select screen that it was Andy Bogard. Not the best looking sprite, either; lacking physical definition, and a grungy color job.
