I don’t think the guy has any intention of profiting off this and I’m sure he never will. Nobody will ever want what he’s cooking. Not even Star Wars fans. If this was simply more dead end capitalist ideas it wouldn’t be so remarkable. “Collecting” has surpassed “UFOologist” in the areas of stupid/expensive ways to ruin your own life. It’s like church for these people. They find ways to belong in the world…by hoarding shit…which is obviously a deeply hollow way to live a life. Certain groups on Reddit are litterally nothing but slideshows of crap people bought, hundreds of photos of common garbage that comes to their mailbox every day. These people need to go back to church or something. It’s that bad. And I know the automatic response from so many people is, “If they aren’t hurting anyone you should be happy for them.” or some such thoughtless platitude but I think that’s a huge cause of this phenomena and the state of dialogue between Americans in general. If you’re taking to someone who collects Mountain Dew…not Mountain Dew memorabilia, actual soda…and he’s having problems with cans eventually exploding, because you cannot collect food…how are you going to be able convince him Q Anon isn’t real if you don’t have ideological sack to bring up the impossible task of trying to archive sugar water in cans like it was Chateau Latour? Collectardation is honestly another side affect of Americans being to scared to talk to each other. “Leaving them alone” enabled this. We can’t any longer hide in this “you let me be weird and I’ll let you be weird” bubble. There were short term payoffs 50 years ago but it has major long term consequences. While you’re humming with your fingers in your ears just trying to get along with everyone by ignoring them, uncle Mike is hoarding ammo. These days much of the West reminds me of a couple who gets married, you’ve probably know a pair like this, where one person is way too into lotto and other is way too into debt, and they get along fine at first because they pretend to be nice and considerate and let the other person have their own space but what really is happening is two cowards are afraid to bring up each others disfunction and the relationship is probably doomed when the bankruptcy eventually takes place.
