SNK fighting game. Super-flashy; it was late '97 when hundreds of kids in Japan got seizures from a red/blue strobing sequence in an episode of the Pokemon anime, and not until '98 that SNK put a "FLASH" ON/OFF options in their KOF games for turning off the full-screen red flashes, and an option for turning off Supers, which have their own red and/or white flashes; in KOF '97, flashes/supers can't be turned off, and you get screen flashes or strobes on KOs, supers, counters, and probably some other stuff.

This MVS cart was thrown in by the seller with the "Omega" consolized MVS I bought on eBay. Because of the flashing I didn't really play it; when I tried it after a year or so of the cart sitting in the cupboard in KOF 2000's clamshell case, the graphics came up corrupted. I disassembled it, didn't see a problem inside, reassembled it, and the graphics were still all glitchy.

Several more years later, after I finally got some isopropyl alcohol, I cleaned the contacts with that, and voila, the game looks perfect again. Can't play the darned flashing thing, though, my eyeballs can't tolerate it; I'll have to stick with the "Global Match" version on PS4 (see entry 1531) with its inter-flame blending "Flicker Filter" that reduces the flash intensity by 50%.
