Ridge Racer 7 is a launch title Sony pointed to as showing off the graphical power of the PS3. Unfortunately for them, its visual advantages over the previous RR6 on Xbox 360 are highly debatable. Not that most people would care to debate it, but apparently hardcore RR fans do. The gist is that while 7 runs in a higher resolution, 1080p, it isn't anti-aliased, and its textures appear to be lower resolution than those on the 360.

I don't particularly know anything about RR6, but apparently 7 is more or less a port, sharing many of the same tracks and cars. There are probably some new ones of both or something.

I liked the control in this game; it's very snappy and responsive, and you feel like the car will do whatever you want. It's hardly realistic, but that isn't really the point now, is it? It felt to me like I had a lot more control over the vehicle than in OutRun (see entry 1052).

The racing itself, and the tracks, on the other hand, looked a little less interesting than OutRun, without the scoring gimmicks and minimodes of that game, and without the whimsical fantasy of its background scenes.

Downloaded the ol' demo yesterday (the full game on PS3 outside of EUR was disc-only, I think, and I'd only ever played someone else's copy) and man, they SO wanted to be Outrun 2--but instead of feeling like your ripping through a hugely powerful drift, it feels more like your wibbly-wobbly noodling your way along a slippy road, just turning your car's nose wherever you like. It's weird. I wrote in 2006 that I liked the control? Heck.

Wow I wrote "your" instead of "you're" twice in a row. = o
