| | | I'm not really sure what downloading would have to do with this game. It starts off with a reasonably nice-looking anime-style slideshow intro thing, with cyber binoculars zooming in on our hero as he apparently pleasures himself on his sofa, then has a weird dream about he and a friend running along panting (but his friend can't quite catch up...) and then his friend is sort of messily done something to with wires, and he wakes up, turns on the TV, gets some bad news about his friend being in jail, hops on his laser-spitting speeder airbike (this is where you take over) and slams down the road blasting everyone in sight, especially the cops.
Hey, sounds like fun! And it is, especially as the parallaxing or whatever it is makes it feel like the landscape is shooting past you very quickly. Also you get to choose your weapon and subweapon, although why you'd go with a subweapon other than the shield that absorbs 15 shots, I'm not sure--comes in particularly handy when you only get one life (three hits I think) per game.
Some of the later stages slow the action down, though, in fact I just died in one rather nasty slow obstacle course with things that appear right behind you. Bluh. And the bosses so far have been a decent-looking but feeble lot. Ah well, I'd be surprised if it doesn't pick up a bit later on.
Will I ever knuckle down and try to find out? Well I don't know, I just don't know. It doesn't really have eye or ear candy to drag me back in, and that obstacle course is hardly tantalizing. Besides, I love reading the random profanity on the Continue screen. |
