The only acetate discs I’ve seen were cut on normal record lathes. There was at least one f0rm of aluminum transcr1ption discs used in the Lomax days where the mechanicals weren’t too huge but still professionally priced for sure. (n/t) from SignOfZeta.
These were for a home setup, not professional. I'm sure the prices were insane for the time, but there's always rich people who are willing to buy things like this. The discs I had were 7" and white (or kind of cream colored, but maybe originally white). They were made out of fiberglass or something with an acetate surface layer as far as I could tell. I later gave all the blank ones to a friend who had found a recorder at a thrift store, though it wasn't working. I did keep a couple that had been recorded onto (nothing interesting, they were just personal letters or memos and had been recorded in the late 1950s). I don't know what ever happened to the ones I kept, I don't think I have them anymore, but they were [a lot like this if not identical](https://www.ebay.com/itm/Wilcox-Gay-Record-Disc-Hank-Snow-Written-on-Label/353413096868).
