I barely ever bought any so I don’t have any hard choices to make. Even shit that’s not old is worth money. Something I have, I can’t remember what exactly, maybe the US SD Blu-ray of Xabungle or Ideon or something goes for like $250. I just got it on clearance like six years ago! You wouldn’t believe what Wendy Lee’s autograph goes for now.
“Guys, is this real?”
Who the fuck would counterfeit that?!
Also all the JP anime LDs I got for %1 of original retail are now going for actual money and pretty much every US anime LD is still worth $40 or more no matter what it is. (n/t) from SignOfZeta.
I was envious of people like you that collected LDs... if only for how beautiful the cover art for them was. For sure shit's crazy expensive if you want the privilege of actually owning physical media now. It's not like any of it is ever getting reprints at this point. All the US-released Gundam Blu Rays are so stupidly expensive, rare, and out of print. I gave up trying to upgrade my DVD versions. A nice thing that all this clutter-thinning has done, though, is that I'm actually WATCHING this stuff again. Got the wife to cry a bit during the 0080 ending. She loved Escaflowne, and we just started Patlabor. I'm promising her that anime isn't just mecha shows, but she doesn't seem to mind. Kodocha and Cowboy Bebop may have to be next.
I started selling my anime cels too. I hadn't opened up the art portfolio holding my collection in about 15 years, and had completely forgotten what I had. Two beautiful Detective Conan cels, Diamond from Gall Force, the main character of Tonde Burin, Android 8, several Violinist of Hameln cels... Found good homes for a few already, but I'm keeping the Hameln ones... That show was just literally made up of frame-able hero shots.
