You guys play any of the Sega 3D Classics on the 3DS? I own a few and they easily best any retro rerelease by Nintendo. I picked up Streets of Rage 2 last month and was so impressed with the implementation of 3D and great options.

I didn't understand why people loved that soundtrack but after hearing it with headphones and finally playing the game I actually understood. Now it's one of my favorites. I have to say, playing this game in 3D helped me enjoy it for the first time. I usually dislike most racing games that use that kind of scrolling but Outrun is just freaking fun. Those upgrades in this version are pretty cool, too. Were those endings in the original game? They're so clever and charming.

So I'm playing Super Hang-On right now and I'm blown the fuck away by it. I never took this game seriously apparently because it's a really fun, challenging game about avoiding the other bikes, who WANT YOU DEAD, and carefully using turbo when you can. It's insanely hard which is why it's so good they give you a lot of options (though I wish they were clearer about what they did: does the more time give me more time every time I hit a checkpoint, or is it just at the start? and outside of lowest difficulty removing hitting other riders, what does difficulty change? number of other riders? or what? IDK)

I bought a copy of the Genesis version a couple years ago because that's what you do nowadays when you see a videogame for sale whether you want it or not, and, I fell in love with it. I previously knew it as 'the game on the 6-Pak to play only as a break between Sonic and Streets of Rage and Golden Axe (fuck Columns)' but for whatever reason it totally clicked with me. Not even Outrun comes close.

I can believe that because since System 16 games are so downgraded on Genesis the thrill could easily flip flip from one to the other. As arcade games, Hangon had a pretty good controller but I like Outrun a lot more.

I'm interested to go back to Outrun. Now I'm like... was I playing Outrun wrong? Is the idea of Outrun to use the high gear like the Turbo in Super Hang On? And I'm doubting that it has that amazing friction of the murderous, hate-you bikers with just regular traffic...

As much as I love 16-bit outrun games, I have to admit that the series got even better when it went polygonal. The PS2 and PSP Outrun 2 or Coast 2 Coast or whatever games are really good.

Yes, but is useless. Everything is useless except drifting your brains out and having a lot of fun. Press Start, drive until you run out of time. I don't even need a memory card to play this game.

It's fantastic. While I admit Outrun has more going on and Galaxy Force II is a fucking marvel I think Super Hang-On is easily my favorite Super Scaler game.

My main interest was the Super Scaler games so I bought all of those... and then I bought a bunch more. Not all of them, though. If Altered Beast were the arcade version I MIGHT have bit.

Space Harrier is just wonderful. It's just as good as the arcade and Amiga versions. I didn't play the Genesis versions much but I remember that playing well as a kid. I did get Altered Beast knowing it was the Genesis version. It's a gorgeous 3D version, but eh, it's the *Genesis* version :P Why doesn't Sega port AB and the Golden Axe games to anything?

Yay! I really hope it's playable. There's a lot going on screen-wise. I'll still get it, though. I hope there's another round of these Sega 3D games someday. Ristar would melt screens!

Picked up Gunstar Heroes 3D today. Wow, very, very pretty so far. I like the two weapon modes and the ability to switch between fixed and movable firing on the fly (finally!). Haven't played much yet, but looking forward to doing so this weekend. WAKE UP, NINTENDO. Sega is one-upping you on your own turf!

Thats nice to hear! Also, yeah, Nintendo REALLY dropped the ball on this one. Theyve always said they had trouble supplying enough software for their systems. Meanwhile, Virtual Console is still a mess, and the 3D Classics series came to a halt, leaving hundreds of games vehind that would have been relatively easy hits.
