Posted by twelvest on March 23, 2016 at 15:38:02 EST in reply to that is sad indeed! I need to send my pc engines in for recapping, my turbo duo is already down :\ (n/t) from exodus.
Do you know a good person for it? I only ask because I have a buddy in LA who does real professional work. He did my rgb mod and fixed all my cracking solder. Not trying to shill for him but get ahold of me if you need someone/want his info.

I don't! christian nutt had a guy he used, so I was gonna go to him, but he just found the guy on ebay. does your LA guy do bulk rates (and what are his rates in general)? I have two expresses and two duos to recap, and I'm debating whether I should get my two TG-16s done as well. Christian's dude also adjusted his laser back to true, which I'm hoping will fix my "won't read all arcade card games" problem, which is just baffling. (n/t) (exodus) (18:07:27 03/23/16 EST)
1) The arcade card issue is almost definitely not a laser issue. You'll probably find its an issue with the region mod, you're using some dumb converter, the slot is dirty, or the card itself is on the way out. 2) I would never recap a TG-16 since they are worth less than the cost of the recap and, AFAIK, almost never/never need caps. Only things with bad caps, bad from manufacture, bad 25 years ago, need recapping. The only PCEs with bad caps are black Duos, Super CDROM2s, Laseractive PACs (Megadrive as well) and the GT/Express. I'm pretty sure that's it anyway. SuperGrafx might also be in that group but I don't remember. Recapping anything else is just throwing money away unless its an old amp or something that's clearly just old and worn out. 3) while shopping around for this service...I know everyone needs money, but don't go with the cheap guys. There are some dudes that will provide $100 services for $35 but you really don't want to do that. Some of those guys learned to solder last week and do terrible work. PCE especially since all the mods require significant care, video mods especially, and while recaping is really simple its also easy to fuck it up so bad that it takes another guy twice as much money to fix it. 4) I know PCEFX is full of assholes and all, but the technical info there is extremely solid and growing all the time. Also, honestly, I think the general attitude there is improving at a much faster rate than the rest of the gamer world. The biggest dicks there now are probably me and all the millennial collectards that only show up to post bad pics of their "collection" before it even arrives in the mail. A lot of the fixes you eventually see elsewhere originated on that forum, like the Chopsado, CDROM2 replacement gears, solder-less region mods, and capacitor replacement charts, 3D printed HuCard doors, and more. I do my own mods but there are several great guys there. (n/t) (SignOfZeta) (13:44:29 03/24/16 EST)
I sent a reply in our email chain with his info! I can vouch for the quality of the work done on mine but I included some other information about him if you want to investigate further. (n/t) (twelvest) (15:13:57 03/24/16 EST)
