I definitely don't have to pretend to like anything! though I will sometimes not mention that I dislike something. Anyway our next game has 3D and I think you will probably like how it looks, so I GUESS WE WILL SEE.

Of course you have to actively decide to like whatever the current state of the industry is. It would be very unhealthy to go to E3 every year and hate everything like I would if I ever went. For me it’s easy to just write off KOF or Sonic or Shenmue forever. I don’t need to rub elbows with those people every day so I can just accept that games have changed and I’m not obligated to somehow fabricate or fake a positive attitude towards crap. Essentially I’m a coward but I feel like I win. Well, sorta. I don’t have enough space on my phone for this game at the moment so that’s sort of a loser situation. (n/t) from SignOfZeta.

I don’t really have a huge issue with 3D now that it’s been totally mastered. I just don’t like seeing a 3D KOF of Sonic. If there is one then it’s time for Iori to get a new outfit. There’s no need to update the old shit if it doesn’t come easy, just do something new. I like lots of 3D games, particularly sims and sports. There’s never going to be a better episode of Samurai Shodown than the Geo ones though so for fuck’s said I wish they’d stop trying.

people seem to really like that new samurai shodown! personally I'm more into the experimental floppy and weird era of 3D, where they weren't sure how to do anything and tried a bunch of stuff. there are a lot of unrealized potential directions the industry could've gone hidden in there. I hated it at the time, because it looked so much worse than 2D - but I find it pretty neat to look at and think about now.

yeah, the look of floating runner has a real appeal to me these days, and the less realistic something looks the more stilted controls feel acceptable to me.
