In a way I feel sorry for you guys who work in the game biz. Of course you have to actively decide to like whatever the current state of the industry is. It would be very unhealthy to go to E3 every year and hate everything like I would if I ever went. For me it’s easy to just write off KOF or Sonic or Shenmue forever. I don’t need to rub elbows with those people every day so I can just accept that games have changed and I’m not obligated to somehow fabricate or fake a positive attitude towards crap. Essentially I’m a coward but I feel like I win. Well, sorta. I don’t have enough space on my phone for this game at the moment so that’s sort of a loser situation.

Oh you can hate the 3D stuff and be into the 2D retro thing, even if you're working on 3D stuff--or the other way around (I ran into someone on a fighting game site comment section yesterday who "hated sprites" or something, I had to do a double-take at that comment ; ).

(Paleface wants to be into the (new) 2D retro thing but most of them suck & the rest have flashy graphic FX that try to give him migraines)

whenever we put out a trailer for a pixel art game people are like "WHAT ARE THESE ATARI GRAPHICS LOL" every time. there's a huge contingent of people who absolutely hate pixel art, think it's very easy to do/a cop out, and just generally think it means a game is "indie crap."

My pixel art indie darling balloon has for the most part popped as well. I haven't quite given up looking just yet, but I am now mostly reconciled to not counting too much on new 2D games coming along that I like and can play, because there don't really seem to be any modern pixel art designers that like non migraine-inducing action games. Eh so mostly I'm just hoping for the occasional re-release of some good old one I don't have yet, or a superior re-release of one I do have. And if ever a new one comes along that rocks my socks, well, that will be a neat bonus.
