sorry, it was 32 bit! but here in 2020 I can also imagine this was just marketing guys in the west saying some words regardless of what was actually going on. I'll get to the bottom of this eventually!

The conclusion drawn in that article is mystifying to me. The quotes they use call it "the successor to the NeoGeo" and "a next-generation system"--no reference at all to a handheld, but the 1999 IGN writers decided this must have meant a handheld system. It isn't that hard to describe a handheld as a handheld. It's kind of key. I don't think this was about a handheld--not from those quotes.

I remember we talked about it a bunch here - this was just the only article I could find. It's likely there was nothing at all in production, but there were more sources, I thiiiiink.
