Got a NGP cart dumper and I'm dumpin' my carts!
VIDEO MotM JP using an open source Sanni Cart Reader V5 ( https://github.com/sanni/cartreader ) and custom NGP adapter board, both made by the builder fullcircleembedded ( https://www.ebay.com/usr/fullcircleembedded )--who does great work--and running the freshly dumped MotM ROM in Mednafen ( https://mednafen.github.io/ ) in Windows. The board goes in the reader's SNES cartridge slot, on the 3V setting (since the NGPC takes two AA batteries, and they're 1.5V each!). I had to flash the Sanni's firmware first with a setting to enable the NGP adapter board, and I updated the game image descriptions as well; the directions for doing that stuff is on the Wiki: -- https://github.com/sanni/cartreader/wiki/How-to-flash-the-Arduino -- https://github.com/sanni/cartreader/wiki/Preparing-the-SD-Card Looked scary but wasn't actually too bad. There aren't very many of these NGP adapter boards out there because nobody makes a part compatible with NGP/NGPC cartridges--so pretty much the cartridge slot has to be taken out of an actual NGP or NGPC! I ordered a beat-up NGPC off eBay to sacrifice. RIP
Follow Ups:
Now, you could say, considering I don't have any unique carts that to preserve and share with the world that the world doesn't already have, this is all a bunch of silly privileged nonsense, and now I'm killing NGPCs for it! = o I don't know that I have a great come-back for that. Emulation fun: Dokodemo Mahjong Color running only in b&w in older emulators, etc! (inside) (Paleface) (17:15:53 02/18/24 EST)
I am curious, aside from just having something to do, why indeed are you dumping games that you can just download? heck of a lot of work for that. (n/t) (exodus) (18:59:46 02/20/24 EST)
Anybody know if there's a command to have Mednafen run a NGPC game as if it's in a (b&w) NGP? Mednafen took its NGPC emulation straight from NeoPop, bugs and all, and NeoPop has a menu setting for specifying whether you're running the game in a NGPC or NGP--so you can play the Yosaku minigame in KOF:BdP, for instance--but Mednafen's documentation doesn't list a command for doing so. I've asked about it on the Mednafen forum but no responses there so far. (n/t) (Paleface) (10:56:45 02/22/24 EST)
Jab spam beats the highest level CPU setting in Gals Fighters. Doesn't work in the other fighters I tried: GD:1C, MotM, R1, R2. In R1/2 you have to be MUCH lighter on the button to get lights to come out; I think I prefer the heavier touch the others allow for lights. (n/t) (Paleface) (12:07:51 03/13/24 EST)
Some new (since I last played it in 2018) info about the hidden b&w "Yosaku" minigame in KOF:BdP: the original arcade game was based on a popular song of the same name by Saburo Kitajima (video inside), the Epoch Cassette Vision port was unlicensed, and there have been some other bootlegs/hacks too!
