It doesn't?
I want to keep it legit, I think that's most of it.
You don't offer the free download option for your games on itch; would people copying your games for free bother you? (Incidentally, I think you should offer the free download option. Not that I actually know how money works.)
It's also possibly useful in that it limits me whereas otherwise I would probably drive myself crazy trying to sift through untold thousands of arcade games and so on; like, back when I had way more games, before I moved five years ago, all those unplayed games were kind of bumming me out. I'd like to be able to narrow things down to the games I really like and could actually spend time getting good at. That might be part of it.
Uh I think I had some other thing about it and now it's escaped me, ah well.
Oh, I guess it was that I want to support game developers and I worry that if I let myself just access whatever games for free, I'd start to think, even just subconsciously, well why should I pay for games, I've got all these tried-and-tested old ones I still haven't even played and I'd end up not supporting current developers as much. It seems like it could easily end up being a slippery slope for me and I'd rather just steer clear altogether.
