Neo Geo Pocket & Neo Geo Pocket Color emulator. Original homepage long gone; gametechwiki points to https://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/misc/neopop.html for download. Last update 2003. Basis for Mednafen's NGPC emulation (see entry 1537).

Has a simple GUI; input assignment is a little weird though. D-pad seems to require keyboard, it uses its own numbering scheme for buttons, and it doesn't seem to recognize the DS4--so I'm running a Frankensteined scheme of Joy2Key and DS4Windows, with Option on "Button 7," A on "Button 2," and B on "Button 0."

Comes with an HTML page listing bugs:

Please check the forum, it may have already been noticed.

If you feel that a saved state is required to explain the problem, PLEASE SEND THE ACCOMANYING FLASH DATA (the .NGF file, if available) as your settings may differ from mine and THIS WILL HAVE A BEARING ON THE RESULTS!
Also, if it's possible, please save the state a little before the problem occurs, saving during the problem is usually too late.

"Cool Boarders"

In-race status bar is corrupted and flickers a bit.
The music becomes corrupted after the first race.

Dark Arms - Beast Buster 1999 (JUE) [a1] [!]

Throws up a whole load of errors about unimplemented opcodes. After that, all that you get is a very light grey screen. Seems to be a bad dump as it's compressed size is much smaller than the other versions available - indicating a lack of content.

"Delta Warp"

Not a bug, but when running in "NeoGeo Pocket" mode it has an elaborate command line simulation to tell you that it requires colour mode.
This simulation doesn't work, you just get a white screen.
Some large characters are corrupted.

"Dive Alert"

Corrupted graphics on the intro as the characters scroll past Evangelion style.
Glitches corrupt the intro scroll text.
The scroller overwrites the background, instead of being transparent.
The scroller doesn't scroll completely off the top of the screen.

"King of Fighters - Battle de Paradise"

After entering an 'exclamation mark', 'skull and crossbones' or 'star' square, the graphics above the status bar become corrupted (still playable though).
Top scanline flickers when doing the diagonal wipe at the start of the level.
Get a blank black screen & Status Bar incorrectly placed if you come across Mini Game No.17 - 'Eyes in the Dark' in Main Mode
**Mini Game name taken from Christina Rose's walkthrough at "GameFAQs.com"

"Magical Drop Pocket"

Seems very difficult - is it supposed to be?
Sound will sometimes hang on the current note. Move the NeoPop window around to silence it.

"Memories Off Pure"

Incorrect black line on the title screen.

"Samurai Shodown 2"

Flickering line between background and bottom status bar caused by incorrect interrupt timing.

"Sonic Pocket Adventure"

Unstable sound code. Music or sound effects may not play and it may even freeze - keep resetting until it's fixed. I have noticed that NOT skipping the SEGA logo generally makes it more reliable.

"SNK vs Capcom Card Fighters Clash 2 Expand Edition"

Corrupt Graphics for Action and Re-Action Cards (corrupt from beginning of game)
Note: When this was originally saved through save state, the logo graphics for the Re-Action Cards were corrupt.
When I checked again to make sure, the Action Card graphics were corrupt instead.

"Super Real Mahjong"

First half of the opening sample is played at 1/2 speed due to simplified DAC emulation.
Game crashes (black screen) possible with many options.

Mednafen still has that "flickering line" in SS2!, for instance. : P

Not noted in NeoPop's bug list, but unlike ares for instance, Mednafen/NeoPop only run Dokodemo Mahjong Color (see entry 397) in black and white.

NeoPop's full screen disappears and then crashes; largest window size is 4x, which is still pretty tiny. So I guess the only uses I have for it are: 1) testing a lot of ROMs relatively quickly, since I don't have to mess with command lines to load them, and 2) running NGPC roms in NGP mode, for instance to get the hidden Yosaku minigame in KOF Battle de Paradise (see entry 144).

Someone was working on an SDL port of NeoPop https://github.com/nih-at/NeoPop-SDL/ but stopped; it's 7 years old now and does not have a compiled Windows version I can find. I tried compiling it with MSYS2 but "autoupdate && autoconf && ./configure" gave errors; it sounds like the project's configuration stuff is out of date and I don't know enough (read: anything!) to bring it up to date. I would think it would have had working fullscreen. Mednafen runs fullscreen though so I guess might as well just be that.

Color games particularly interesting in b&w:

- Battle de Paradise has the Yosaku minigame
- Pac-Man's field is a light background, light grey ghosts
- SvC has a funny picture

Ah, don't need Joy2Key when using DS4Windows; DS4Windows can handle mapping controls to keys etc.

Oh! SvC shows ~10 pictures, in cycle, in B&W mode.

So for recording, I'm doing NeoPop's 4x window, point scaled x2 in OBS (1280x1216, once you remove the 32px borders NeoPop adds), then bordered to 1440x1440, which is what YouTube seems to require to go above 1080p.
