Reminder to myself that I got this for cheap in a Steam sale so uh it's an option if I really wanted to play OutRun or Super Hang-On not on PS4 (or PS3 for SHO). But I'd have to play through the beginning part to get to where it lets you get to the arcade. ... Oh heck it's not that long, maybe I'll do that.

Rushing to the arcade games as fast as I could!

Cheap in Steam sale. Lots faster to get from new game to Club SEGA with an SSD than it was on PS4. ^_ ^ 2021 Steam release Yakuza 6 runs noticeably worse on my 4.5 yr old mid-range gaming laptop than 2023 Steam Like a Dragon Gaiden from the same Sega series. There was even a spot or two of slowdown in SF5FS here! ; P And the AA throughout is noticeably weak; one option is slightly better but runs REALLY bad. Was also reminded throughout of all the little UI etc tweaks Gaiden has made that make the whole thing much more tolerable! Had forgot in Yak6 they split the games up between main Club SEGA and tiny satellite Club SEGA two blocks south; noob Kiryu can only run 1.5 blocks before keeling over and being set upon by muggers. : P And there are a lotta things marked on the map with gamepad icons that aren't video arcades, like whatever SEXY CLUB is (it was closed by cops : P) and a karaoke joint! Harumph!

(Gaiden does have per-game button mapping, too.)

Still can't get into Puyo Puyo or Fantasy Zone. I guess VF5FS is technically fully playable and all, it's just I wish it could have the costume-making and customized AI teams that the 720p PS3 version has, le sigh.

Was on the verge of thinking I was getting into Space Harrier finally, then reminded there are no continues. Dang! Guess I should just try harder maybe. Oh and I could play it on the EASY cab instead of NORMAL--hm!

Think I got more in touch with OutRun's obstinate steering here than I ever have; really have to baby it and do as much long-range traffic avoidance as possible, because up-close steering IS bad--or at least, I'm super-bad at it.

Super Hang-On though, man what a game. Love the music, love the colors, love the weird cornering, love the selectable difficulty stages, love that Sega gave this one arcade game a third, "VERY EASY" cab. ^ _^ Cleared the Beginner course on it! = D

Oh, the SF5FS here only goes up to NORMAL difficulty, so that really limits it, unfortunately.

Totally forgot about Super Hang-On's TURBO button, it's only available when you've topped out the bike's regular speed at 280 km/h--the speed numbers go red, then you press and HOLD the TURBO button and the bike goes way faster.

Not keen on having a second button to have to hold--if you release Accelerate, TURBO shuts off--but Steam Input to the rescue! Can bind a second "Command" to the Accelerate button and just map the TURBO button to it as well, way-hey! I mean that might mess with your controls in the rest of the games but who cares, Super Hang-On is the one that matters. (And you definitely CAN'T double-map the controls like this in the PS3 version--not on an actual unhacked PS3, anyway.)

Also with Steam Input, can set the buttons to toggle gas instead of having to hold the button. And if both Accelerate and Brake are pressed, Brake wins. And in-game it's set up to have "Alternate" buttons for buttons, so I have X as Alternate Confirm/Accelerate, L1 as regular Confirm/Accelerate, [] as Turbo, O as Brake, and in Steam Input have [] activate both [] and L1, both as toggles.

Super Hang-On's music-choosing menu that comes up after selecting your race difficulty level is a little confusing. It requires a long press of the analog stick up or down to toggle through the songs, and then Brake (or just about anything else) to select; the "SELECT MUSIC WITH THE BRAKE" original graphic is a little unclear in that regard. :p (Doubly confusing because on the PS3 version I think it was Accelerate to toggle through them.)

Ah okay I set the toggling the Confirm/Accelerate to L2 instead of L1 so I won't forget and use holding L1 for gas as I do in other games in which I don't have this sort of not-having-to-hold-gas scheme worked out.

In the PS4 version of Yakuza 6, in the stand-alone arcade port on PS3, and in the actual arcade game according to arcade info site KLOV, Super Hang-On runs at a 10:7 screen ratio.

In the Steam version of Yakuza 6, Super Hang-On runs at a narrower, 4:3 screen ratio.

(The other retro arcade games in the Steam version of Yakuza 6 might be similarly too narrow; I haven't checked them.)

Yeah Space Harrier's a fun game, guess I'll hafta keep Yakuza 6's 38.92 GB on my HD after all, darn it. ; ) Even after dumping Super Hang-On from my PS3, I mean. ^ _^
