| | Ported by a different group than Doom II (see entry 638), this earlier Doom moves a heck of a lot faster than the follow-up. The tradeoff seems to be a lower screen resolution, but I'll take that any day, especially considering the speed at which this version glides along. You can switch off dynamic lighting for an additional speed boost but for anyone who got used to the GBA Doom II, this further framerate increase is completely gratuitous, and besides the levels don't look right without shadowed areas. I hear tell they also took some of the bosses out of this version, and maybe cut a level or two. Well, that's a bummer but I can live with it. The basic gameplay is intact and the first Doom was always my favorite anyway. |
