That reminds me, did anyone else see that recent advert for some sort of Windows KOF? It showed kids playing in the arcade and it going out of business and all the machines being taken away, then it sorta showed the console/Evo era and then implied that KOF would next take its place in our hearts with this super great online Windows version. I didn't really give a shit about whatever the product was but the portrayal of the transitioning arcade scene was quite touching, IMO. Its so similar to the way it was in my area and the ad was for a market on the other side of the planet. China or Korea or Thailand or whatever (As we established, I can't tell these dudes apart, but I think it was a mainland China thing). Anyway, look it up. I can't find it.

Man, I guess they have long commercials over there. That Xiao Hai dude the main character morphed into at the end (at "EVO") is a professional fighting game player. One of the URLs at the end goes to what looks like a Chinese site selling a front end for buying/playing PC versions of games, I suppose they probably have a downloadable Chinese version of KOF'97.

I can't say. Not at all. IIRC, Beni is faster in 97, the New Face Team just plays better overall. Other than that...better story mode?

Oh wow, that's unfortunate. I can console myself a bit (and on the go) with the NeoGeo Humble Bundle I bought recently. Android versions of lots of good SNK arcade fun. Touch screen controls are abysmal as as expected, but most of them seem to have the ability to recognize controllers (Beast Busters KOF is strictly touchscreen only, but that makes sense). I have an OTG adapter for Android so I'll give the controllers a whirl on my phone and eventually my Kindle HD.

Wow, Garou and KoF'98 work relatively well with a USB gamepad via OTG adapter. The SNES clone pad I have has a really stiff d-pad which made moving and specials hard to pull off but it was fairly responsive otherwise (I have a Bubbalo USB SFC controller which I can't find right now and which has a great d-pad, grrr). I had trouble with my iBuffalo gamepad being recognized. The X and Y buttons are reversed (XY on top row, BA on bottom) and I couldn't assign them properly in the games' configs. Too bad as that's a great pad for PC games (ones that use digital controls). Anyway, worth the price so far.
