My current job has a ton of downtime, so I broke down and got the Mario Land 3D New 3DS, Monster Hunter Generations, Final Fantasy Explorers, and Xenoblade Chronicles. Truth is, I was tired of the empty feeling that playing cellphone games like Final Fantasy Record Keepers was giving me.
 
Thoughts:
I like the hardware. It reminds me of my old DS Lite, with a better hinge. The switchable exterior plates are great. The system I bought came with two sets: an ugly one with Mario and a cool yellow one with 8-bit renditions of various Nintendo characters.
 
Mario Land 3-D. I have played maybe 15 minutes. I'm not really feeling it. Mario games lost their appeal to me around Mario Sunshine.
 
Monster Hunter Generations. I'm having a hard time getting into it. The learning curve is steep. I'm 5 hours in and still lost.
